Fearrington for the Holidays

When you talk about the things that make Pittsboro famous, Fearrington Village would have to be Number One.

It’s a farm and a village, a community and an inn. You can eat a meal at Fearrington (a good meal, too), shop there, get married, hold a meeting or live there. People from all over the world visit Fearrington.

And when they’re visiting Fearrington, they’re visiting Pittsboro.

Fearrington, in case you’ve never been, is in the middle of idyllic piece of farm country but right next to everything cool in the Triangle. Just a few miles up 15-501 from downtown Pittsboro and Route 64, it’s just a hop, skip and jump from Chapel Hill, Durham and the rest of the Triangle. See Fearrington on a map.

Lots of great things are always happening at Fearrington, and no time is more happening than the holidays. Here’s their rundown of amazing holiday events.

Celebration of Literary Trails of The North Carolina Piedmont

McIntyre’s hosts a celebration of Georgann Eubanks’ Literary Trails of The North Carolina Piedmont, co-sponsored by the North Carolina. Guest authors in attendance will be Judy Hogan, Cathy Smith Bowers, Jill McCorkle, and Nancy Peacock. Read your way across North Carolina’s Piedmont in the second of a series of regional guides that bring the state’s rich literary history to life for travelers and residents. Eighteen tours direct readers to sites that more than two hundred Tar Heel authors have explored in their fiction, poetry, plays, and creative nonfiction. Along the way, excerpts chosen by author Georgann Eubanks illustrate a writer’s connection to a specific place or reveal intriguing local culture–insights rarely found in travel guidebooks. Featured authors include O. Henry, Doris Betts, Alex Haley, Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, John Hart, Betty Smith, Edward R. Murrow, Patricia Cornwell, Carson McCullers, Maya Angelou, Lee Smith, Reynolds Price, and David Sedaris. Literary Trails is an exciting way to see anew the places that you already love and to discover new people and places you hadn’t known about. The region’s rich literary heritage will surprise and delight all readers. Georgann Eubanks is a writer, teacher, and consultant to nonprofit groups across the country. She is director of the Table Rock Writers Workshop, was a founder of the North Carolina Writers’ Network, and is past chair of the North Carolina Humanities Council.

McIntyre’s Author Event: Bland Simpson

McIntyre’s is delighted to welcome author Bland Simpson back to Fearrington to discuss The Coasts of Carolina, which captures the vibrancy of the North Carolina oceanfront, sound country, and interior shores behind the barrier islands. He will be joined by Scott Taylor, who has been photographing the coast for almost thirty years. He and Bland Simpson, whose many coastal books have delighted readers for two decades, come together to offer an inviting visual and textual portrait organized around coastal themes such as nature, fishing, and community life, with an emphasis on particular places and seasons. Evocative text is woven together with 145 vivid color images to present a unique and welcoming vision of the coastal region. As natives of the area, the collaborators venture beyond the familiar to show us swamp, marsh, river, sound, and seashore, uncovering places of uncommon delight that most visitors rarely lay eyes on. Their work celebrates the beauty of this amazing region and embodies their distinctive sense of what makes the North Carolina coast so special. This book is the perfect gift for anyone who loves our coastline and waterways. Bland Simpson is Bowman and Gordon Gray Distinguished Term Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and longtime member of the Tony Award-winning Red Clay Ramblers. Scott Taylor is a photographer whose photographs have appeared in many local, state, regional, and national magazines, publications, and galleries; he works from his studio and gallery in historic Beaufort, NC
