Thrill Or Chill This Father’s Day

Pittsboro, NC – Growing up, my brothers and I never got our Dad a necktie for Father’s Day. Our Dad liked the thrill of fishing, diving, hiking, hunting, camping and paddling. But maybe your husband or Father is more of a chill guy, watching the golf game, drinking a beer, eating a wonderful meal.

Whether the Dad in your life likes to thrill or chill, here is a list of things to do in and around Chatham County this Father’s Day weekend.

Gifts That Thrill

Don’t get overwhelmed by the abundance of knick-knacks and what-have-yous at the mall. Try a gift to thrill Dad this year.

Golf

The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club – World-class golf on a Davis Love III signature 18-hole golf course. The Preserve at Jordan Lake is the first and only golf community adjacent to Jordan Lake. Love’s philosophy when designing a course is to preserve the existing terrain in its natural state, making the finished course an integral part of the surrounding beauty.

Chapel Ridge Golf Club – Pittsboro’s first golf course, Chapel Ridge is the county’s fifth course and is situated on 790 acres of rolling countryside. Designed by Fred Couples. The Golf Club at Chapel Ridge offers premier facilities including an 18-hole championship golf course, practice range, short game area, along with a clubhouse/grille and fully stocked golf shop.

Governors Club Golf Course – Ranked sixth in the Piedmont Top 10 and 20th in NC; numerous other distinctions, including being classified as five-star golf. The 27-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course is carved out of the highest topography in the region around Edwards Mountain, giving the golfer magnificent vistas of all he surveys.

Siler City Country Club – Enjoy a round on this semi-private eighteen-hole course designed by Ellis Maples and Tom Jackson. Convenient to all Siler City accommodations, this hilly course has a clubhouse with great views.

Rodeo

Take Dad to see the Rodeo! The Palomino Sport Arena in Goldston is open to see the Rodeo every Friday. Friday nights feature an evening of bull riding, barrel racing & kids sheep riding action. The doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 8pm. Admission is $8, $4 for ages six -10, and ages five and under enter free.

Get Out On the Water at Jordan Lake

Jordan Lake Water Sports – “Dads Paddle Free” all weekend at Jordan Lake Water Sports. They have five boating opportunities for you and Dad to enjoy the beauty of Jordan Lake. You can rent a kayak, canoe, pontoon boat, fishing boat, or stand-up paddle boards for three hours or all day!

Or if you would rather someone else drive the boat, check out a Triangle Boat Tours. They provide private and special event tours for individuals and groups. Captain Don and his wife Heidi will take you for a gentle ride on their brand new 24-foot Bentley Pontoon Boat with comfortable lounging and seats for up to 12 guests. They have 11 different types of tours and gift certificates.

Gifts That Chill

Relax Dad, with a Day at the Spa

The Spa at Fearrington – A day spa offering facials, massage, body wraps, plus many spa specials.

The Spa at Bell House – Spa services in a beautiful historic home. Relax and enjoy a bit of pampering and treatments. Reflexology, chemical peels, and massage are available.

Food & Beer

Carolina Brewery – a locally-owned brewery and restaurant that has drawn international attention for its handcrafted beers. Take Dad to eat, get a tour of the brewery, and bring home some craft beers.

Celebrity Dairy, Third Sunday Dinners – June’s 3rd Sunday happens to be Father’s Day. For this rare treat, you and Dad will  begin with appetizers and goat cheese. Then sit among guests at a long large table for the 4-5 course meal. Check for availability and reservations.

The Granary at Fearrington Village – Sunday brunch is served every Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm. Head there for a wonderful Father’s Day brunch. Call for reservations.

Whether Dad chills with the family or heads out for a thrilling adventure, he will love that you were thinking of him.
