Halloween in Chatham County

Pittsboro, NC – Fall is in the air across Chatham County, NC and it’s that time of year when corn mazes appear and pumpkin carving contests begin. Get out of the house and enjoy one (or all) of these Chatham County Halloween events.
Corn Maze, Hay Ride
Now through Halloween, corn mazes, hay rides and the like are popping up on farms across the Triangle. For small, independent farmers in North Carolina, Halloween is an important part of the annual revenue stream.
There isn’t much marketing around corn mazes and hay rides. It’s mostly word of mouth. But many farms have been doing it for years, Like Phillips Fram in Cary and Green Acres in Apex.
This year, I’d like to highlight Huckleberry Trail Farm, 4 acres of corn and bushels of fun.
Huckleberry Trail Farm is less than 10 miles from downtown Pittsboro – 12 minutes, according to Google Maps.
There’s a corn maze, a hay ride (in the beautiful Chatham countryside), a farmyard full of activities and the Patch, where you can pick your own pumpkin.

Sat Oct 27 – Pittsboro Fall Street Fair
Thousands of visitors flock to Pittsboro for the annual Fall Street Fair. Arts, crafts, great food, music, children’s events and fun characterize this day long event. With diverse musical offerings, great fall weather and great food, what’s not too like? More info: PittsboroNC.gov.
Sat Oct 27 – Siler City Halloween Hoopla
The Siler City Halloween Hoopla has everything to delight even the scariest trick or treater – Candy, treats, pumpkins, games, food, arts and crafts, and plenty of vendors, plus a costume contest (with prizes). The businesses downtown are passing out candy to trick or treaters and there’s a costume contest on the Rotary stage.
Sat Oct 27 – Pumpkin Paddle
Just over the county line, get out on the Haw River for a mellow nighttime Pumpkin Paddle. Paddlers meet at The Haw River Canoe & Kayak Co. for an evening float and community gathering.
Before launching, a carved pumpkin is attached to each boat and a glow stick placed in each pumpkin provides the illumination. For those not accustomed to paddling in the dark, it is a truly unique and special experience.
After a magical time on the water, participants, while surrounded by glowing pumpkins, take part in a riverside bonfire.
Fee: $25 per person with the canoe or kayak provided, or $20 per person for those bringing their own boat.

Tues Oct 30 – Fearrington Pumpkin Fest
Stay out of mischief the night before Halloween at the Fearrington House Pumpkin Fest.
Enjoy the spectacular pumpkins intricately carved by Fearrington’s gardeners and chefs, listen to live bluegrass, visit with Belties, and enjoy Spooky Storytime for the little ones at McIntyre’s Books at 6pm and 6:30pm. The Shops will be open until 8pm, and The Fearrington Granary will serve family-style dinner from 5-8pm.
