Central Carolina Pittsboro

Spring Class at Central Carolina in Pittsboro

Pittsboro, NC — Many is the time I’ve driven past the campus of Central Carolina on West Street without giving it a second thought. But having a college in Pittsboro is an incredible resource, so I browsed the offerings and came up with a few interesting things to share.

Central Carolina

Central Carolina Community College, as it is formally known, has a network of colleges and instructional facilities in Chatham, Harnett and Lee Counties.

In Chatham, the main campus is in Pittsboro. From CCCC:

Central Carolina Community College’s Chatham County Campus is located on 42 acres at 764 West St. in Pittsboro. The campus has 59,000 square feet of floor space for classrooms, shops, offices, and laboratories.

The Pittsboro campus offers degree programs, continuing ed, medical, culinary, arts and more.

For readers in the western part of the county, CCCC also has a center in Siler City.

Microsoft Word and Excel

With things always changing in technology, it’s good to know the “basics.” Knowing how to use a computer is all but expected in an office job today. But what about Microsoft Word and Excel? I’m surprised at the number of people I know who aren’t terribly comfortable with the Microsoft Suite. Heck, I know there’s a lot there that I don’t know how to use. This class goes over editing, formatting, composition, and printing in Word, as well as spreadsheets and worksheets in Excel. Excel is particularly useful if you are running a business for budgets, estimates and invoices.

The class meets Thursdays from 6 – 9 PM from February 6, 2014 through March 27 2014 for $71.25. It is 24 hours/credits.

Strategies for Writing a Novel

Have you always wanted to write a book of your own? Writing a novel is a lot of work, but this class teaches plot and character development, how to write dialogue, point of view, and genre expectations. Or maybe you know those things but are interested in getting feedback on your stories. This class offers peer review, as well as teaches how to submit manuscripts to editors and agents. This class meets Tuesdays from 6:30 – 9 PM from March 4, 2014 through April 22, 2014 for $126.25. It is 20 hours.

Ferment Vegetables

Any class with food sounds promising. Learn how to make your vegetables have some of the strongest flavors. This technique has been around for a long time, but why? This class teaches why fermenting is important and how to do it–you’ll be making food like Rachel Ray in no time. There’s even a more advanced course if you get the hang of this one. This class meets Wednesdays from 9 AM – 12 PM from January 8, 2014 through February 26, 2014 for $71.25. It is 24 hours.

Jewelry Making

Need to give a gift but short on time or money? When I don’t know what to give a girlfriend, jewelry is always a good guess. You can learn to make earrings, necklaces, pendants, and bracelets for yourself or someone you love. The class works with wires, clays, and coppers to create unique creations that you’ll be excited to show off. This class meets Wednesdays from 6 – 8 PM from March 12, 2014 through April 30, 2014 for $59.00. It is 16 hours.

There are so many different course offerings available. I recommend taking a look at the Spring Course Catalog to see what’s inspiring.
