Happy Summer Camping

It may feel strange wearing short-sleeve shirts in March, but summertime weather is just around the corner. With summertime weather comes a break from school for the kids, vacations and, of course, summer camps. This year, start your search early for the perfect summer camp! From art to cooking to kayaking, make your Chatham County summer camp experience a new tradition!

The following list features a few summer camp options in the area, but there are plenty more to explore!

Indulge in the Arts:

Pittsboro Youth Theater and Pittsboro Center for the Arts offer a summer full of arts emersion and theater. The CFTA Arts Emersion Camp is offered from June 19 – 30^th for children ages 8-12 and from July 24^th – August 4^th for children ages 10-14. Join CFTA’s top instructors for their ½-day art camp, featuring skill development for acrylics, sculpture and much more! The Pittsboro Youth Theatre Theater Arts Camp for ages 10-14 takes place from July 10 – 12^th. The ½-day theater camp allows students to learn theater skills in preparing for their final production at the end of the camp!

Full-day only campers will write their own play, make sets and design costumes in preparation for their production. If students are unavailable to participate for the full day, ½ day programs are available for both the Arts Emersion Camp and Theater Arts Camp from 9 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m.- 5 p.m.

The J. Logan and Elinor Moore Nature Preserve offers several weeklong summer camp opportunities for campers who are looking for an unforgettable outdoors experience. These camps are lead by experienced naturalists, artists and educators. Camps are from 8:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.

From June 26 – 30^th, campers of ages 6-10 can learn to build forts, shelters and other hideouts with the Fantastic Forts program. The Wild World of Play for ages 8-12 will take place from July 3 – 7^th and will feature ample opportunities for adventurous play. The Archery & Games program for ages 10-14 from July 10 – 14^th allows campers to spend a week in the wild with bowyer, Jonny Waken, shooting wooden bows and arrows and exploring!

Song of Summer:

Sing your way through summer camp with Sisters’ Voices Glee Camp at Pittsboro Presbyterian Church! From popular music to folk music to Broadway show tunes, campers will work on developing their vocal techniques. Learn good singing form, music reading and performance skills throughout the weeklong program. Singers will enhance their skills in both solos and duets with other campers, ending the week with a performance.

The Sisters’ Voices Glee Camp takes place from August 7 – 11^th from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. for 3^rd – 6^th graders. Extended hours are available from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. No choral experience is needed to participate.

Invent Your Summer:

Inspired by the Inductees of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Camp Invention campers have the opportunity to work with many hands-on challenges, such as creating a Spy Gadget Alarm Box and launching waters rockets. Camp Invention seeks to foster future innovators and welcomes children from kindergarten to sixth grade.

The program takes place from June 19 – 22^nd from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. at Perry W. Harrison Elementary School in Pittsboro!
