Pumpkin Large

Orange You Glad It’s Halloween?

How did the Great Pumpkin fix the hole in his pants? With a pumpkin patch.

I know; it’s cheesy. But with the fall leaves, Chatham County is simply “Gourd-gous” at this time of year, and it’s got me in the mood for some “Corn-y” Halloween puns. Below are several Chatham County events that “Candy-liver” a good time!

“Spelling,” the Witch’s Favorite Subject in School:

Special Halloween Story Time: Halloween is the perfect time for spooky stories! Head to the Chatham County Library on Thursday, October 30, from 6 – 6:30 p.m. for a free Halloween Story Time for kids. For more information, contact the children’s department at (919) 545-8085.

Check Out the “Boo-Tiful” Pumpkins:

Pumpkinfest: The chefs and artists at Fearrington Village tackle jack o’lanterns with incredible skill during this October festival. Who knew pumpkins could be so artful? It was a treat to see broomsticks, cats, ghosts and haunted houses carved directly into pumpkins during last year’s festival. Come marvel at the talent this year before enjoying dinner at the beautiful Fearrington Granary, The Goat or Roost.

Pumpkin Run: Don’t try to pretend you won’t be sneaking a few pieces of Halloween candy from the bowl. In preparation, head out for this family-friendly 4K run on October 25, and you can enjoy those fun-size Snicker’s bars guilt-free! Plus, the race benefits the Chapel Hill Carrboro YMCA and Carolina North Forest. For $25, that’s quite a deal.

A Corn Maze, but Not “Tomb” Much:

Corn Maze at Huckleberry Trail Farm: If spending hours finding your way through a challenging corn maze sounds like your ideal afternoon, the Huckleberry farm is for you! If that sounds terrible, you should still head over, thanks to a newly-designed “escape path” right through the middle. This way if you want to take a break, before completing the maze, you can easily walk out and pick up where you left off. Also, every group gets a flag that you can wave if things get too confusing, and farmhands are stationed on a viewing platform in the maze to keep an eye on things. It’s sure to be “bushels” of fun!

Track or Treat!

All aboard for a haunted train ride at New Hope Valley. This family friendly Halloween event takes place during the last two Saturdays of October. Along the one-hour train route, you’ll view live, interactive Halloween scenes as the Ghost Train steam engine chugs past you on a second set of tracks enveloped in heavy mist, spooky décor and making eerie noises. Tickets are $13.

I’ll Leave You With a Story:

One day two pumpkins, who were best friends, were walking together down the street. They stepped off the curb and a speeding car came around the corner and ran one of them over. The uninjured pumpkin called 911 and helped his injured friend as best he was able. The injured pumpkin was taken to emergency at the hospital and rushed into surgery. After a long and agonizing wait, the doctor finally appeared.

He told the uninjured pumpkin, “I have good news, and I have bad news. The good news is that your friend is going to pull through.”

“The bad news is that he’s going to be a vegetable for the rest of his life”.

Happy Halloween!!
