Valentine’s Day in Chatham County

Valentine’s Day in Chatham County

Valentine’s Day is coming up! The weather may be cold, but love is in the air, and Chatham County can help you celebrate.

As you probably know, and as Pittsboro Road House points out on its blog, planning early can be the secret to having a stress-free holiday. The little things add up, and they can make or break your weekend. Remember to choose your cards early on, because you know it takes time to choose exactly the right message for Valentine’s Day. Order flowers at your favorite flower shop, if not your favorite grocery store.

And, most importantly, plan for the weekend. Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, so it will take extra planning to make sure it all goes right! Here are some ideas for your plan!

Valentine’s Day Indoor Tailgate Party:

Ignore the cold weather this weekend by attending the Valentine’s Day Indoor Tailgate at Top of the Hill in Chapel Hill, on Saturday, February 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This winter lunch buffet is just up the road in Orange County’s Chapel Hill, and it includes beer and liquor tastings, as well as bloody marys and mimosas. TOTH will stream the UNC vs. Pitt men’s basketball game, so you can enjoy rooting for the local team along with your meal! The event will also include Videri chocolate, Chapel Hill Toffee, a Sweetie Pie Jewelry trunk show, flowers, complimentary copies of the brand new issue of Southern Bride & Groom, a Top of the Hill gift basket giveaway and more.

If you need any more incentive to go, you’ll be happy to know that a portion of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Durham Branch of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.

Tickets for the event are $50/person and $95 for a couple. Get yours here. This is a lovely way to spend your Valentine’s Day, either with a date or with a group of friends!

More Valentine’s Events:

That’s not the only event Chatham County has to offer this Valentine’s Day. Whether it’s you and the family, you and the special someone, or just you and a group of friends, Chatham County has just the right event! Enjoy Valentine’s Day this weekend!

For families:

  • Go hiking at Jordan Lake, Sat, Feb 14, 1:30 p.m.: Take a guided hike through the blue loop trail. It’s 2.7 miles long, but the sweeping views of the lake are worth it! Be sure to dress for the weather and bring plenty of snacks. Birders, bring binoculars!
  • Make a Valentine’s Day pottery piece, Sat, Feb 14, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: The Raleigh Street Gallery is a consortium of many artists from the area. While there, you can decorate a coffee mug with heart artwork, with Valentine’s Day in mind! If you’re feeling really creative, you can upgrade to a plate or travel mug. Leave your mug here to be fired out in the kiln; it will be ready for pick up the following weekend.
  • Party at the Open Barn, Sun, Feb 15, 1:30 p.m.: Celebrity Dairy is a special farm-to-fork restaurant, which periodically hosts Open Barn events to show off the made-from-scratch cheeses, soaps, pickles and more. On Sunday, the restaurant is hosting a special “Be Our Valentine” event, where you’ll enjoy local greens, avocado cream, Raspberry Wine, truffles and a whole lot more goodies!

For couples:

  • Spend a weekend away: 458 West bed and breakfast is hosting a Valentine’s Weekend Special, beginning with a five-course dinner February 14 at 7 p.m. If you only attend the meal, you’ll pay $45/person, but you can spend the night and save 20% off your bill! By the way, the fourth course is a flourless chocolate torte with whipped cream and fresh berries. That alone makes me want to attend!
  • Or just have a fancy dinner: If you fancy sleeping in your own bed, you can still enjoy a night out in Chatham County by heading to Doyle’s Vineyard for a five-course Valentine Dinner Saturday night. Complete with music and treats, for $65/person, you’ll be served Maryland crab cake, New Orleans chowder, and slow-roasted NC pork pancetta. On second thought, I’ll have a hard time deciding which dinner to attend!

Just for fun!

  • Polish your nails, Sat, Feb 14, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Beautiful You Spa & Nail Studio, situated in downtown Pittsboro, offers custom treatment, including pedicures, manicures, reflexology, gel polish, gel enhancements, wax services, facials, and lash & brow tinting. They’ll be open Valentine’s Day, making the perfect opportunity to treat yourself before going out at night.
  • Sail through the air in a Hot Air Balloon: Mystic Venture offers hot air balloon rides, if the weather permits. The flights last one hour and include champagne celebration — perfect for a unique Valentine’s Day outing! This trip will cost $250 for one person and $400 for a party of two, including the champagne celebration.
