Jumpstart Fall at this Free Briar Chapel Concert

Now that Labor Day is behind us, the summer season has officially ended. Time to put away your white clothes, and break out the oranges, browns and deep reds to enjoy the cooling temperatures as we make our way into fall!

(Fun Fact: Did you know this past summer was the longest possible summer? Memorial Day was May 25th, or the earliest possible day, and Labor Day was September 7, or the latest possible day.)

Briar Chapel, a neighborhood in Chapel Hill, is providing the perfect way to enjoy the start of autumn: A free event called “Music In The Meadow,” which will be held this Saturday, September 12, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Event Overview:

Music in the Meadow is a free concert series that Briar Chapel has held on the second Saturday of each month this past summer. Due to the popularity of the series, the neighborhood decided to tack on one last event in September, even though summer has technically passed.

While at the event, you’ll enjoy live music, food trucks, local beers and Italian ice. Bring the whole family and rock out to hits from the 70s and 80s, as performed by LEGGZ.

Here are the nitty-gritty details:

When: This Saturday, September 12, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Music: LEGGZ

Encapsulating the true nature of “throwback,” LEGGZ plays all of your favorite songs from Today’s Hits to Motown & Classic Rock to 70’s & 80’s Retro. From Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on Prayer” to Rick Springfield’s “Jesse’s Girl.” From Van Halen’s “Jump” to ZZ Top’s “Sharp-Dressed Man.” Cheesey? Of course, but sometimes it feels good to “Play that Funky Music,” especially when life is about to get much more hectic with the start of school.

The Food: Capps Pizza

Several food trucks will participate in the event, but the main food sponsor is Chatham County’s own Capps Pizza. A mobile wood-fired pizza restaurant, Capps specializes in true artisan wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizza, utilizing all natural and fresh seasonal ingredients.

Capps’ crust is light and crisp on the outside and soft and tender on the inside with the cornice that is puffy and full of bubbles providing a perfectly balanced crumb only found in Neapolitan pizza. It doesn’t get better than this, folks!

If you come to the even Saturday and find you’ve fallen in love with Capps, don’t worry about the fact that they are a mobile restaurant! The delicious food truck operates year-round and can often be found at local farmers markets in Chatham, Orange, and Alamance counties.

The Drinks: YesterYears Brewery

Remember when life was a little less rushed, phones were scarce, TV’s were only in certain homes and good beer was shared with friends making great memories? That’s what YesterYears Brewery tries to celebrate: remembering the “Good Old Days” of fathers and mothers, grandfathers and grandmothers!

YesterYears Brewery uses local ingredients to delight its Carrboro-based customers. All beers are non-filtered and non-pasturized — exactly the way it use to be, which is how YesterYears likes it. You’ll enjoy Double IPA (the most popular), Oktoberfest, and the odd-sounding “Pepper Jelly Beer.” Check out the full list of beers here.
