What is Mead?
You’ve tried beer, you’ve tried wine and now it is time to take a chance on mead! What exactly is mead? Mead is fermented with three ingredients: honey, yeast and water. While some may associate wine and mead, mead stands alone in its own category of alcoholic beverage. It is suggested that mead is the oldest alcoholic beverage on earth, as noted from evidence of mead fermentation from Chinese pottery vessels from 7000 B.C.
Ancient Greeks often refer to mead as the “nectar of the Gods.” Since its early days, mead has been used in different medicinal forms, such as for improving digestion or helping with depression. Although its uses may vary, you can be assured that its flavor is just as diverse as your palate, with fruit infusions, syrup or hops blends.
