Bringing the Heat to the Season
A few weeks ago, you read about many of the fall festivals that are taking place in the Chatham County area. This week, we hope you are gearing up your anticipation and palate for the 10th Annual Pepperfest! Located at Briar Chapel’s Meadow Park in Chapel Hill on Sunday, September 24 from 3 p.m.-6 p.m., there is plenty of time left to plan your visit.
Abundance NC:
What is Abundance NC? Abundance NC founded the Pepperfest ten years ago and still keeps the tradition alive today. This organization strives to build tightknit communities by acting as a resource for sustainability and local economy throughout North Carolina. Through sustainability workshops, community events, sustainability tours and much more, Abundance NC is truly a staple in fostering community collaboration. Their annual Pepperfest celebration aims to celebrate local chefs and farmers and the work they continue to do for our local economy.
What to Expect:
Does anything sound better than meeting over 50 chefs, distillers and brewers at North Carolina’s largest local food festival? I don’t think so. Have a passion for heat and flavor? They’ve got what you are looking for. Sample a variety of foods and drinks from a diverse assortment of vendors, all of whom are using Chatham County peppers. We would love to hear about some of your favorite dishes!
Maybe not all kids will enjoy the spice, but they will enjoy the Kid’s Pepperpalooza pavilion! Join them in creating original crafts, participating in sustainability workshops, watching an aerial skills demo and even a unique science show!
The end of the Pepperfest will close with the crowning of a king and queen, recognizing the outstanding individuals who work to celebrate peppers and local food.
Sounds of Pepperfest:
The headlining band for Pepperfest this year is Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellys. Their sound embodies their roots from Michigan and the spirit of Motown in Nashville, TN. Inspired by blues, folk, jazz and techno music, the band strives to make simplicity an integral part of their craft. Above all, you’ll love listening to them while chowing down on your next favorite peppery dish.
Pepperfest will also feature The Piedmont Regulators, Imagine Circus and many more artists!
Purchase Your Ticket:
Join more than 1,400 attendees in experiencing 800 pounds of local peppers at this year’s Pepperfest. For children under the age of six, admission is free. Admission is $5 for children ages 7-12 and $30 for all other attendees.
The Flying Pepper Trail Run:
This event will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 24 before Pepperfest commences. Join runners on a four-mile run, eating peppers all along the way. You will even get to take a shot of the award-winning Flying Pepper Tobago Infused Vodka. Registration is limited to 50 participants, so make sure to sign up early. The first 25 runners will receive a Pepperfest t-shirt!
