Camp Kinda Summer
Summer isn’t over yet. In fact, we’re only getting started here in Chatham County! If you did not have your child’s summer all planned out in April, don’t fret.
Summer Day Camp at Northwest Park:
For many of us adults, summer camp represents such a definitive time in our younger years. Summer Day Camp at Northwest Park is hosted by the Chatham County Parks and Recreation Department, offering opportunities for rising kindergarteners through eighth-grade students to spend a week immersed in recreation.
Camp is offered from Monday to Friday throughout July and August for the following weeks:
Week 1: July 5-8
Week 2: July 11-15
Week 3: July 18-22
Week 4: July 25-29
Week 5: August 1-5
Week 6: August 8-12
The fee per camper is $55, which includes a variety of traditional summer camp activities: fishing, swimming, archery, crafts, outdoor games, board games, air hockey, foosball, ping pong, pedal boats, hiking and boating. Campers must bring lunch, snacks, water, sunscreen, a swimsuit and a towel every day.

YMCA Day Camp: Pittsboro Elementary School
This summer, encourage your child to make new friends, experience new activities and simply have fun. Located at Pittsboro Elementary School, YMCA Day Camp is offered to rising kindergarteners through eighth-grade students. Campers will embark on days of arts and crafts, kickball, basketball, soccer and plenty of games. While campers will spend most of the day outside, weather may alter plans on hot or rainy days.
In a typical camp day, students will start with huddle time and complete four to five activities with their small groups of 20-25 campers. After campers complete a swim assessment, they will be permitted swim access in the pool.
Weekly themes range from the Wizarding World of Camp, to Stars and Stripes Week, to Blast from the Past Week to Sci-Fi Week, to Under the Sea Week, to Super Hero Week and to Olympic Week. Sign up for one or all of the weekly sessions!
Chatham County 4-H Summer Camp
4-H is America’s largest youth development organization, which seeks to empower young individuals with leadership skills. Here in Chatham County, 4-H summer camps are available for students looking to improve upon their leadership skills! To register, individuals must be enrolled through the 4-H online portal.
4-H Adventure Day Camp: 4-H Life Skill Lessons (Ages 9-12) – June 21-24
This day camp will focus on outdoor and life skills, featuring educational and craft sessions, games, fishing and paddle boating! Camp days will run from 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Northwest District Park in Siler City. The cost per camper is $50.
Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Residential Camp in Reidsville, NC (Ages 8-14) – July 24-29
Campers will travel from the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center to the Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Residential Center for a week of swimming, canoeing, environmental education programs, ropes courses, archery, horseback riding and crafts. The cost per camper is $375 and includes all expenses for the week: transportation, food, crafts, insurance, a T-shirt and $15 in camp store funds.
