Back to School – Chatham County Public Libraries

This may come as a surprise, but did you know there are more public libraries than McDonald’s in the United States? That’s more than 17,000 libraries. On its own, North Carolina has a rich history of public library service, supporting communities and education across the state. In Chatham County, Chatham County Public Libraries are integral in fostering engagement, offering community opportunities to connect and learn.

As students go back to school, these spaces become critical to students’ academic success. A 2022 survey of 135 academic librarians in the United States indicates the key part that libraries play in that success. This fall, whether you are a student or a lifelong learner, find a library near you!

StoryWalk® Grand Opening – September 9

On Saturday, September 9, Chatham County Public Libraries introduces the addition of StoryWalk® at Chatham Community Library. Located along the walking trail surrounding Central Carolina Community College’s Chatham Main Campus in Pittsboro, StoryWalk® is allows families to have fun reading together, while exploring the great outdoors. The project’s grand opening will begin at 1 p.m., inviting community members to explore the trail with Youth Services staff.

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. How does it work? Typically, pages from a children’s book are installed along a path. Pages are accompanied by activities or information, making reading even more appealing to young readers.
