Green Central Teaches Sustainability

Pittsboro, NC – I am always looking for new ideas to make my home more energy efficient. This weekend, Carolina Central is hosting an event to educate businesses and homeowners about the advantages of going green.
Sustainable Technology for Homes & Businesses
Central Carolina Community College (CCCC) is hosting the “2011 Celebrating Green Central” event to feature the Sustainable Technology program offered at CCCC and to highlight local green homes and businesses.
If increasing energy efficiency and renewable energy in your home or business is a priority of yours, you will find great local resources here. The event will be informative and fun and also includes tours of the Sustainable Technology labs and presentations by instructors and local experts.
Friday Night, October 14, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Attend the kickoff and reception at the Chatham Community Library. Celebrate the season of regional foods from the Natural Chef kitchen with tastings from the Sustainable Agriculture Program’s pizza oven on Friday night.
This free evening event will be in conjunction with Trade Show featuring local green businesses that focus on building, energy efficiency, renewable energy and green products for the home.
Trade Show And Informative Presentations – Saturday, October 15, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The trade show will highlight local businesses that contribute to the local green, sustainable community. The trade show will take place in the Chatham Community Library.
Visitors can also learn about sustainable technologies from local experts in the Sustainable Technology building on Saturday, 9am – noon. Topics include:
- Solar thermal and solar electric for the homeowner
- DIY weatherization
- Home energy upgrades
- Building green renovations and additions
- Tour of the Sustainable Technologies Labs
Home Tours – Saturday, October 15, 10am – 4pm
Here is a great tour that will help you get some insight and ideas to apply to your own home. Tour eight homes that feature green design, water saving strategies, renewable energy applications and creative re-use of materials.
Tour goers can pick up tour maps at the trade show or find the map and home descriptions online.
