Chatham Music Scene: TRKfest Coming Up
Pittsboro, NC – Chatham County has a great music scene, and it’s not all bluegrass. Nothing wrong with bluegrass, BTW. But this weekend is about Indie artists at TRKfest in Pittsboro.
TRK Fest
Have you heard of TRKfest? If you are into finding out more about the local music scene, this is your festival.
TRKfest is an annual one-day music festival and fundraiser hosted by local Chapel Hill label Trekky Records and held at Piedmont Biofuels in Pittsboro.
Trekky Records in Chapel Hill
Trekky Records is a record label based out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It was founded in 2001 by Chapel Hill natives Martin Anderson and Will Hackney as an outlet for their friends’ music.
Over the years, the label has grown into a collaborative community of over 40 musicians and artists, working closely together on various musical projects. The label’s mission is to help restore the vibrant indie scene that this area was once famous for, by helping the countless network of local musicians to release and distribute their music.
Fifth Annual
This will be the 5th annual TRKfest. The event began as a one-off fundraiser for the Trekky Records Collective in 2008, but has become an annual event, returning each year by popular demand.
Each year the festival takes place at Piedmont Biofuels, an industrial biodiesel plant and organic farm in Pittsboro. They are hosts of this event along with The Abundance Foundation, who have paired to put on a number of concerts and parties since the eco-industrial park opened in 2006.
This year’s festival will continue its reputation as an essential expression of the North Carolina music scene, as well as some special, one-time-only collaborations from some of the states finest musicians.
In addition to the music, attendees will be able to play games, cool off under the sprinklers, purchase local clothing and crafts, tour the biodiesel facility and dance until they collapse, all while listening to some of the eclectic tunes from the best NC bands. Local food venders will also be on hand emphasizing local and sustainable foods and drinks.
