June in Chatham County

Enjoy the North Carolina weather this month in Chatham County! There are several upcoming events in or near the county that showcase all the Piedmont has to offer.

June is a wonderful time of year for North Carolina – school is out, and you have time to do things as a family. It’s warm enough to stay outside all day, but not too hot yet. It’s still technically spring, and the trees are blanketed with light-green new growth.

Accordingly, many places across the Piedmont are hosting events outdoors for the whole family. Summer camps at Jordan Lake, hiking at Briar Chapel, clay shooting in Sanford – all close to home in Chatham County. What a great way to enjoy one of the best times of year in North Carolina!

Jordan Lake Boating Camp:

Hosted by Triangle Boat Tours and Elegant Yacht Vacations, Jordan Lake Boating Camps begin mid-June and run through the end of August. Each camp is designed to build students’ confidence on and around the water, including skill areas such as kayaking (flatwater only), SUP, fishing, boat driving, treasure hunting, navigating, etc. Children, ages 7 – 14, can have a blast learning new boating skills and about nature, while practicing teamwork and building character along the way!

Because the day camp programs are limited to a small group size of just 10 – 15, participants get loads of personal attention and instruction. Kids learn more than just boating skills – each day has a theme about real-world explorers, adventurers, and even pirates to fuel imagination.

Clay Shooting Competition:

On June 14, Deep River Sporting Clays of Sanford, N.C., is hosting a clay shooting competition. According to the company, this year’s event will consist of a 100 target National Sporting Clays Association registered event shot over 13 fields, NSCA Rules in effect. NSCA members will compete for medals in their class and concurrent class. Non-NSCA members will shoot in an open class with class winners receiving medals determined by the Lewis Class System of classification.

Everyone has a chance to win, so there’s no excuse for not heading out! There will be medals for youth shooters as well. To sign up, visit the company’s website, email [email protected], or call (919) 774-7080.

Hiking, Biking and Swimming for National Trails Day:

Saturday, June 7, is National Trails Day, and Briar Chapel Community, in Chapel Hill, is celebrating! A complete schedule is listed below, and as you can see, there is plenty for the entire family to do. Mountain bike in the morning, walk the trails, learn some history, and then relax by the pool. Sounds like a great way to enjoy the weather to me!
