Rowing Into Summer

It’s almost time to put away your winter coats and bring out those water shoes! Is there any better way to spend the weekend than on the water with Cape Fear River Adventures? As they are gearing up for the summer season, make sure you mark your calendar with all of their upcoming events!

This April, get your paddles ready to head out on the open waters!

Guided 10-Mile Challenge:

On Saturday, April 8 and Saturday, April 29 at 10 a.m., immerse yourself in an action-packed day on the river. With a mix of Class I rapids, Class II rapids and stretches of peaceful water, you will have the ability to take in all that nature has to offer you. Take a break from all of the action with a stop for lunch or a bit of a break from your ten-mile voyage. Cape Fear River Adventures does acknowledge that the Cape Fear River is more slowly moving during the summer and suggests that you prepare yourself for additional paddling. Be cautious that the river is unpredictable, so boats have the potential to get stuck or become capsized.

The trip begins at the Cape Fear River Adventures office in Lillington to the NC 217 bridge in Erwin, NC. Join a small group from one to three individuals for four to four and a half hours of pure adventure. Expect groups with more individuals to spend more time on the water. The shuttle will bring you back to the office in Lillington!

River Clean Up Event:

Volunteers are needed to join Cape Fear River Adventures in maintaining the beauty of the Cape Fear River. On Sunday, April 9 at 9 a.m., volunteers will be split into several groups in order to clean different sections of the river, some including Class II rapids and others without. All equipment will be provided on the day of the event, including boats, paddle and transportation. While paddling experience is preferred, it is not required for this event!

Spend Sunday giving back to your community in helping to clean from Lillington upstream two miles and back and Lillington to Wildlife Road.

Intro to Kayaking:

Not ready to take on the river as an experienced pro? That’s okay! Cape Fear River Adventures is offering an Intro to Kayaking course on Saturday, April 15 at 1 p.m. This hands-on training is geared towards individuals looking to improve their paddle sports skills and learn more about navigating the water. During the first two hours, participants will learn more about different equipment followed by a short break before hitting the water. In the water, participants will learn entrance and exit techniques, different paddle strokes and recovery from a capsized boat.

The class will last 3-4 hours and is $25 per participant. While you will need a kayak for the class, you are able to bring your own or rent one from Cape Fear River Adventures for $25.
