Is it fall yet? October is rounding the corner, which means the season of Oktoberfest is among us. Many years ago, in the year of 1810, Crown Prince Louis, who would become King Louis I of Bavaria, invited the citizens of Munich, Germany to his marriage celebration in front of the city gates, including a horse race, a feast and the origins of Oktoberfest. Though much has changed in the past 200 years, the spirit of community gathering remains unchanged. Today, Oktoberfest is celebrated in various forms worldwide from late September through early October, with an average consumption of one million gallons of beer annually. The tradition lives on in Chatham County on October 2. Cheers!
