Band Small

Bluegrass, Beer and Baguettes

I love living in Chatham County because there are so many fun events that take place! Take, for example, an upcoming “Bluegrass and Blues” music festival in Chapel Hill.

If live music, local beer and food trucks sounds like a good combination, this event is for you. The Hey Brothers, a bluegrass band from Raleigh, will entertain all afternoon with their guitars, banjos, fiddles and more. Steel String Brewery, a Carrboro favorite, will provide the beer, and a variety of food trucks will provide the rest.

Make sure you carve out time on your summer schedule to head to Briar Chapel in Chapel Hill, on Sunday, July 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. Because trust me, you won’t want to miss this party.

The Hey Brothers:

They call themselves “The Makers of Fine Bluegrass,” and they’re not far off – these five friends know how to have a good time.

The Hey Brothers got their start after the five band members (Anthony Campbell, guitar, lead & tenor vocal; John Dudley, banjo & baritone vocals; Brian English, fiddle & bass vocals; Tim Lee, mandolin, lead & tenor vocals; and Keith Sikes, upright Bass & lead vocals) got together one night to fool around on their instruments. After they ended up playing well past midnight, they began to contemplate forming a band.

“We gotta make the time to do this again, this is fun. It’s bona fide!” they said.

After several more jam sessions, they formed The Hey Brothers. Check out their music here; it will definitely get you in the bluegrass mood. Also, check them out on Facebook or Twitter.

Steel String Brewery:

With names like “Big Mon IPA” or “No Quarter Coffee Stout,” it’s obvious Steel String Brewery doesn’t mess around. The brewery claims to “brew high quality ales by adapting aggressively hopped American styles into the North Carolina vernacular.” If you head to the festival, make sure you grab a Country Pie Pecan Brown Ale – nothing beats North Carolina pecans.

The popularity of local beer is growing in our state, and if you live in Chatham County, you’ll be close to craftsmen who know how to make a great brew!

Food Trucks:

During the past few years, food trucking has become a culinary hit in North Carolina. Let your inner “foodie” out and try a sausage baguette from Baguettaboutit or a delicious, non-dairy, creamy Italian ice treat from Little Dippers Italian Ice.

Come on out!

Who doesn’t love a Sunday-Funday? Grab a chair and your friends, and come on out!
