Summer Weekend Fun: Deep River Sporting Clays

Last month, I had the pleasure of taking a concealed weapons class at Deep River Sporting Clays in Sanford, N.C. If you’re looking for a unique way to enjoy a Chatham County weekend this summer, I highly recommend it.

What I Learned:

The training lasted all day, and I learned all sorts of valuable knowledge related to concealed weapons. Instructor David Wulff taught me when and where I could carry a concealed handgun, and when and where I could use deadly force. I also worked with a variety of handguns, carry systems, shooting styles, all the while making sure I was employing safe habits.

What To Do if You Want To Take a Course:

If you’re interested in signing up yourself, you can make a reservation by calling (919) 774-7080. Tuition is $90, but that’s a great deal when you’re getting eight hours of fantastic training. To take the course, you’ll need a picture ID, handgun, holster with belt, 40 rounds of ammunition, eye and ear protection and your lunch. No need to worry if you don’t own a gun – DRSC rents handgun, and you can buy ammunition for the class. Just make sure you let them know beforehand.

DRSC offers much more than concealed weapons classes, if you’d like to broaden your gun knowledge. For example, July 15-17, the company is offering a “Professional Shooting Sports Instructor Certification.” In this three-day course, you’ll learn how to make shooting sports instruction more adaptable, flexible and creative; incorporate the Coordinated Shooting Method (CSM) into your teaching; and to put yourself and your students on the learning “Fast Track.”

Fun for Everyone:

Even if you’ve never shot a gun before, you’ll fit right in! Sporting Clays is a shotgun sport for the whole family and an excellent option for business entertaining. Even if you’ve never held a gun in your life, you can still take part, with minimal coaching. Plus, the sport is outdoors — in the beautiful North Carolina Piedmont — and offers opportunities for conversation and fellowship.

I highly encourage you to check out this fun place. It’s well-suited for the beginner, intermediate and advanced shooter. My weekend was well-spent, and yours will be too!
