It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Resolution Season
Ah, it’s finally that time of the year when we can all hit the reset button on future goals and milestones we’d like to achieve in the next 12 months. Whatever did not get accomplished in 2019 is in the past. For many, the same goals are set year after year with little desire to make real progress. What if you could get started today? Whatever your goal is, there is a resource in Chatham County to achieve it.

Make Health a Priority:
Something about stepping out of the coziness of the couch beside the warm glow of the fireplace seems daunting when it means heading to the gym instead. Any resolutions made about improving health means making a total lifestyle change. That includes eating healthier, finding time to integrate fitness into a daily routine and making different lifestyle choices overall. Lucky for you, you’ve got places to go that will make it easier!
Chatham Marketplace: The Chatham Marketplace in Pittsboro is a co-operative business owned by community members, like you. With over 2,800 member-owners involved, Chatham Marketplace is a group of people celebrating likeminded economic, social and cultural values. Located in Chatham Mills, here you can find access to healthy food choices and local agriculture, which all goes to support the local community.
Chatham YMCA: It’s more than a gym. It’s an environment to meet new people, learn new skills and achieve health and wellness goals along the way. Open Monday through Saturday, get involved in youth basketball, after school programs or group fitness classes. Start the week with yoga at 9 a.m. on Monday and finish it out with Boot Camp on Saturday morning.
County Parks and Trails: Not a gym person? No problem. Chatham County is home to a plethora of walking trails and five parks providing a variety of recreational activities. January seems like the perfect time to begin your trek on the American Tobacco Trail or push out a canoe onto the Haw River. Explore all the recreational activities there are on our map!
Find Time to Relax:
It can be difficult finding time to relax. Fortunately, there are many avenues nearby that allow you to do so. Take an afternoon for some well-deserved “me” time. You won’t regret it!

Volunteer Regularly:
Kick off the new year by giving back to those in need! Chatham County has a plethora of opportunities to volunteer with a variety of organizations. Whether you are giving an hour or two to Chatham Habitat for Humanity or the Haw River Assembly, you are making a difference where you live!
VolunteerMatch: Don’t know where to begin? Start with VolunteerMatch! With dozens of organizations to choose from, make the most of giving back. Volunteer with the Pittsboro food pantry, United Way of Chatham County, Relay For Life equine-assisted therapy for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Special Olympics Chatham County: As one of the largest Special Olympics programs in the world with nearly 40,000 registered athletes, Special Olympics North Carolina is making a difference in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities through the transformative power of sports. Special Olympics Chatham County is actively looking for volunteers and coaches to assist with basketball and bowling.
Chatham County Schools: It’s never too late to go back to school, especially as a volunteer. Each school has unique volunteer opportunities to work directly with students. School volunteers must complete an online application and a criminal background check before commencing volunteer activities.
Learn a New Skill:
Central Carolina Community College: Located in Pittsboro, CCCC offers a plethora of courses and programs ranging from college-level credit programs, short-term job training, emergency services training and more. Experience targeted workforce training to increase your competitiveness as a potential employee. Financial aid support and student services can make your degree a reality!
Chatham Clay Studio: Learn a skill you can give back to others! Pottery classes at the Chatham Clay Studio in downtown Pittsboro are open for 2020 registration. Get an introduction to wheel and handbuilding, make a face mug or sign up for a date night!
Joy of Movement: Practice physical fitness and motion at the same time. From belly dancing, to social dance, ballroom and Latin dance, there’s a class for you! Take it slow with a class on meditation, energy healing or yoga.
